Publication Ethics
TechSains: Jurnal Teknologi Informatika dan Sains Terapan is a scientific journal that publishes high-quality articles in the fields of Information Technology and Applied Sciences, including informatics, information systems, actuarial science, environmental science, bioentrepreneurship, and other relevant applied fields.
This publication ethics statement explains the ethical standards that must be followed by all parties involved in the publication process of scientific articles in TechSains, including authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and the journal publisher or management.
Publication Ethics Guidelines
The publication of articles in scientific journals is an important part of the development of science, technology, and applied sciences. Published articles reflect the quality of the authors’ scholarly work, the integrity of their institutions, and the credibility of the journal as an academic publication platform.
Therefore, TechSains establishes publication ethics standards that must be followed by all parties involved in the publishing process. These standards include academic honesty, originality, objectivity, transparency, scientific responsibility, respect for copyright, and academic integrity.
The management of TechSains is responsible for all stages of publication, including manuscript submission, editorial screening, peer review, editorial decision-making, and article publication. Every editorial decision is based on the scientific quality of the manuscript and is not influenced by commercial, personal, institutional, political, or other external interests.
Publication Decision
The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for deciding whether a manuscript submitted to TechSains is accepted, revised, or rejected. Publication decisions are based on the manuscript’s relevance to the journal’s focus and scope, originality, methodological quality, clarity of presentation, scientific contribution, and reviewers’ evaluations.
The editorial board ensures that every published article has undergone an appropriate scientific review process. Editors also seek to prevent the publication of manuscripts containing plagiarism, copyright infringement, data manipulation, redundant publication, or other forms of academic misconduct.
In making editorial decisions, editors may communicate with reviewers, editorial board members, or other relevant parties when necessary to ensure the quality and integrity of published articles.
Fair Play
Editors evaluate each submitted manuscript based on its intellectual and scientific content without discrimination based on the authors’ race, religion, ethnicity, gender, nationality, institutional affiliation, or political views.
Every manuscript submitted to TechSains is treated fairly, objectively, and professionally. Editorial decisions are made solely based on the academic merit of the manuscript and its relevance to the fields of Information Technology and Applied Sciences.
Confidentiality
Editors, reviewers, and all parties involved in the editorial process must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts submitted to TechSains. Information regarding a submitted manuscript must not be disclosed to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, editors, and parties officially involved in the publication process.
Unpublished manuscripts must not be used for personal purposes, private research, or the interests of other parties without written permission from the authors.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any potential conflict of interest that may affect the objectivity of the publication process. Conflicts of interest may include personal, academic, institutional, financial, competitive, collaborative, or other relationships related to the manuscript.
Rejected manuscripts must not be used by editors or reviewers for their own research or personal interests without the authors’ consent. Any information or ideas obtained during the review process must be kept confidential and must not be used for personal advantage.
Retraction Policy
TechSains is committed to maintaining the integrity and accuracy of its published scholarly content. Editors may consider retracting an article if clear evidence indicates serious ethical or academic violations.
An article may be retracted if:
- There is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable due to major error, data manipulation, data fabrication, or data falsification.
- The article constitutes plagiarism.
- The findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper attribution, permission, or explanation.
- The article contains data, materials, or information used without authorization.
- Copyright has been infringed or there is another serious legal issue.
- The article reports unethical research.
- The article has been published through a compromised or manipulated peer review process.
- The authors failed to disclose a significant conflict of interest that may have affected the interpretation of the findings or the editorial and review process.
In handling article retractions, TechSains may refer to internationally recognized publication ethics principles, including the COPE Retraction Guidelines.
Reviewers’ Responsibilities
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Reviewers assist editors in making editorial decisions regarding submitted manuscripts. Reviewers also help authors improve the quality of their manuscripts by providing objective, constructive, and scholarly feedback.
Readiness to Review
A reviewer who is selected but feels unqualified to review the manuscript, lacks sufficient time, or is unable to complete the review within the specified period must immediately notify the editor and withdraw from the review process.
Confidentiality of Manuscripts
Any manuscript received for review must be treated as a confidential document. Reviewers are not permitted to share, display, discuss, or use the content of the manuscript with or for any other party without permission from the editor.
Standards of Objectivity
Reviews must be conducted objectively, fairly, and without bias. Reviewers must not make personal criticism of the authors. All comments, criticisms, and suggestions should be expressed clearly, logically, politely, and supported by relevant scholarly arguments.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Reviewers are expected to identify relevant publications that have not been cited by the authors. Reviewers must also inform the editor if they find substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and any other published or submitted work.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest for Reviewers
Reviewers must not review manuscripts if they have conflicts of interest with the authors, institutions, companies, or other parties related to the manuscript. Information or ideas obtained through the review process must be kept confidential and must not be used for personal advantage.
Authors’ Responsibilities
Reporting Research Results
Authors must present their research accurately, honestly, and clearly. Manuscripts should provide sufficient information about the background, methods, data, results, discussion, and references so that the research can be understood, evaluated, and cited by readers.
Reports containing fabricated data, manipulated results, misleading information, or intentional inaccuracies are unethical and unacceptable.
Data Access and Retention
Authors may be asked to provide raw data or supporting data related to the manuscript when needed during the editorial process. Authors are responsible for retaining research data for a reasonable period after publication.
Where possible, authors are encouraged to provide access to research data in accordance with the principles of scientific transparency, while still considering research ethics, data confidentiality, and applicable regulations.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that the submitted manuscript is original. If authors use data, ideas, theories, methods, figures, tables, or works of others, those sources must be properly cited and acknowledged.
TechSains does not accept manuscripts containing plagiarism, unexplained self-plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, or other forms of academic misconduct.
Redundant Publication and Simultaneous Submission
Authors must not submit the same or substantially similar manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously is unethical and unacceptable.
Authors must also not publish the same article in more than one publication venue without proper explanation, permission, or attribution.
Contribution to the Manuscript
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, implementation, analysis, interpretation, or writing of the manuscript.
Each listed author must have read and approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission for publication. Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet the criteria for authorship may be acknowledged in the acknowledgement section when appropriate.
Hazards Involving Humans, Animals, or the Environment
If the research involves humans, animals, chemicals, equipment, procedures, or activities with potential risks, authors must state that appropriate safety procedures, research ethics, and applicable regulations have been followed.
Research involving human participants, animals, sensitive data, or environmental risks must be conducted in accordance with relevant ethical principles and regulations.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest for Authors
Authors must disclose any conflict of interest that may influence the results, interpretation, or objectivity of the research. Conflicts of interest may include financial support, institutional relationships, personal relationships, affiliations, or other relevant interests.
All sources of funding, sponsorship, or support for the research must be clearly stated in the manuscript, if any.
Fundamental Errors in Published Articles
If authors discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published articles, they must immediately notify the editor or journal management. Authors are expected to cooperate with the editor to issue corrections, clarifications, or retractions when necessary.
